Lee questions Army leadership on National Guard Apaches, Army force protection measures

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA— Sen. Mike Lee questioned the civilian and uniformed Army leadership Thursday morning in the Senate Armed Services Committee on the recommendations to maintain a fleet of Apache attack helicopters in the National Guard, and measures the Army is taking to protect soldiers and their families from domestic and international terrorist attacks.

The men and women of the Utah Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment have performed an extraordinary service to our country in combat theaters over the past 15 years, and the experience they have gained in war fighting is irreplaceable.

Lee said he encourages the Army to maintain this force and the unique, ready capability the Utah National Guard soldiers provide to the security of the United States.
