ST. GEORGE — On May 21, the Equality Utah Celebration will return to the Dixie Center St. George for an evening of entertainment and inspiration for supporters of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals and families.
This evening event will feature the talent of Jason CoZmo, a celebrity impersonator who, Equality Utah’s news release promised, will dazzle and inspire. CoZmo has been performing for 15 years from coast to coast, with the goal of not only entertaining but also spreading a message of diversity and love. There is something for everyone in his shows.
In addition to CoZmo and his ensemble’s impersonations, song and dance, this year’s Equality Utah Celebration will feature prize drawings, a red carpet and a silent auction featuring works of prominent local artists.
Two Equality Awards will be presented at the event to people who have lifted up voices of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Utahns. The awards will be presented to Susan Ertel, an associate professor at Dixie State University and a proponent and ambassador of LGBTQ rights for students on campus, and Matthew Jacobson, a local journalist who shared his personal story with the St. George City Council for the proposed St. George anti-discrimination ordinance.
“I am looking forward to honoring our incredible awardees, Susan and Matthew,” event coordinator Linda Stay said. “We have an incredible and beautiful LGBTQ community in southern Utah. We must remember that the work toward full legal equality is far from over and we must stay the course! This will be a night to remember.”
Tickets to the Equality Utah Celebration are $100 per person and are available at the Equality Utah Celebration Web page for the Southern Utah event or by telephoning 801-355-3479.
Proceeds from the event fund Equality Utah’s 501(c)(3) organization, which educates and trains Utahns in all corners of the state about the political process and related LGBTQ issues.
Sponsorship opportunities for businesses and volunteer opportunities are available. Email Linda Stay at [email protected] for information.

I know nobody should be discriminated against but the truth is it happens whether you are fat, skinny, any color, any race, any personality, any opinion and any religion so what makes lgbt community more special than anyone else? We are all judged and discriminated against just for walking on this earth. God have mercy on us all.
They are having a party, that’s all. So don’t go.
Pleeeeeze, I’ll be working at this event I ain’t missing my hours, I’ll be there and I bet they are nice people. 🙂
Will there be men’s and women’s bathrooms at the event or just bathrooms with question marks on the door.

When I think about the fact that Washington County donated money (my tax dollars) to that Western “Freedom” Festival last year, I am forced to wonder how much they donated to the Equality Utah Event?
