The project will consist of resurfacing the campground road system and expanding the electric power infrastructure.  The entire campground and associated restroom facilities will be closed during this period, a press release regarding the closure said.

Park Manager Kristen Comella said the purpose of the project is threefold:

  1.  The current pavement is cracked and crumbling. The park is putting on a two inch hot mix asphalt overlay which will restore the surface to new
  2.  There are several wash crossings with large dips in the campground. While these dips help storm water to flow through the campground they are also difficult for large motorhomes and recreational vehicles to navigate.  Culverts will be put in and the elevation of the dips will be raised so larger rigs will no longer scrape bottom
  3.  The park is adding an additional transformer into the lower loop of the campground. The additional transformer will allow for the park to eventually add power to most of the sites in the lower loop of the campground and help with future reconfiguration and expansion of sites

Campers are encouraged to explore Sand Hollow and Quail Creek State Parks as possible alternatives. Information on Utah State Park camping facilities is available at Utah’s state parks website.

“During construction the entrance road to the campground and park headquarters will be closed,” Comella said. “Most days visitors will still have access to park headquarters and the bookstore, however, they will need to park along the road adjacent to the lawn day use area and walk up the drive to the office.”

Throughout the project there may be days where park headquarters and the bookstore are not accessible. On those days visitors will not be able to purchase items at the bookstore. There will, however, be attendants at the South Entrance station to assist guests with entrance fees and the purchasing of annual park passes, Comella said.

These improvements are welcomed but the first month of summer? What about double shifts and get it done?
