“We had a family of five — two adults and three children, I think they were two years old, five years old and seven years old— who did not bring enough water with them on their hike on the Arch trail,” Washington County Search and Rescue Liaison Darrel Cashin said.

The children were feeling ill, and they only had one water bottle left, so they called for help, Cashin said.

Search and rescue personnel hiked the 1.5 mile trail to where the family was located. Since none of the family members were seriously ill, rescue personnel decided to escort the family back out on the trail.

However, with several steep sand dunes to climb on the Arch Trail, the rescuers instead decided to hike them a short distance down to the river, where they were picked up by emergency personnel in four wheel drive vehicles.

Emergency medical responders gave the family a clean bill of health, and they were driven to their campsite and dropped off.

Approximately 12 emergency responders helped the family during this incident.

Silly people taking such small children on a hike like that! I wonder how much their escapade cost locals to rescue the silly people? Take water and leave small children home or stay at camp don’t hike with them on trails such as this.

It’s good they didn’t wait to call for help. Everyone is ok. personally, I wouldn’t take kids that far. I’m not a hiker so I might be biased.

    A. People fuss because parents dont instill enough stuff like this with their children and we have people fussing that they tried but weren’t perfect.. smh. B. I’m sorry that they did get lost or didn’t realize how much fluids they needed for the hike and C. I am so proud of Washington County search and rescue they have some of the toughest jobs in the nation! they have to do their work in the ice cold and snow.. middle of night… they have to do it in this super-hot rugged terrains too, they have to climb dangerous routes, they have to wade in flooding Waters and they are always there rain, shine, snow, fire, tornado, earthquake, terrorism, smoke… u name it.. they are real heroes like iron man and wonder women! they always always are there within no time and they never make anyone feel like they should never have called they are always kind and generous—>>> I hope these guys n gals get bonuses, medals, editorial mentions and most of all —->>> I hope these guys get cookies at Christmas I hope Washington County really appreciates them.

Were these westerners or tourists from far away ? ?
I can’t fathom people who live in the west Not understanding basic water needs But
People who are from the other side of the continent are not familiar with dry lands .

Very misleading hike. Labeled online under easy along with same hikes that are much easier. Not an easy hike would consider moderate to hard. They have had many issues in this same area in the past.
