Vehicle rolls 45 feet into ravine; driver transported to hospital

SANTA CLARA — A car rolled off Pioneer Parkway Sunday afternoon and landed about 45 feet down in a ravine filled with lava rocks.

The single-car accident happened about 2 p.m. on Pioneer Parkway, Santa Clara Fire Chief Dan Nelson said. A black Nissan Maxima was traveling westbound when it drove off the road for reasons that have not been determined.

Nelson said the driver was very lucky, escaping with what appeared to be only minor injuries to his hands and head. He was carried out on a stretcher and taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George to be examined further.

Units from the Santa Clara Fire Department and the Santa Clara-Ivins City Police Department responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
