WASHINGTON COUNTY — An 18-year-old man is dead after rolling a Mustang convertible Sunday night on state Route 9 near Virgin.

Just after 11 p.m., Kamen King Kanosh, 18, of LaVerkin, was driving a white 2012 Mustang convertible, traveling west on SR-9 just past 50 South in Virgin, according to a media statement issued by the Utah Highway Patrol.

One of Kanosh’s co-workers was driving a vehicle immediately in front of the Mustang when the two drivers came upon a blind curve where the roadway is marked with double yellow stripes indicating a no-passing zone, UHP troopers said.

Despite the area being a no-passing zone, Kanosh passed his co-worker on the blind curve, according to the Highway Patrol.

As Kanosh was making the pass, an oncoming vehicle traveling east in the same location forced Kanosh to swerve to the right to avoid a head-on collision, authorities said. Kanosh then overcorrected the Mustang back to the left, subsequently causing the Mustang to overturn off the shoulder of the eastbound lane.

Kanosh was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers said, but sustained head trauma when the Mustang overturned due to the fact that the vehicle was a convertible.

Life Flight was launched to respond to the scene but was canceled before landing as Kanosh was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed is listed as a contributing factor in the crash, with witnesses estimating a speed of 90-plus miles per hour, the Utah High Patrol said in the statement, adding that authorities are looking into possible impairment as a factor in the crash as well.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Terrible. It’s terrible being young in a fast car. All that horsepower and you want to use it and show off. And then something like this happens. The teenager is no longer here but the family is left here with sorrow. Condolences to the family and friends.

Black cloud in my home today. This young man worked for my husband and was killed shortly after he left work last night. I personally did not know this boy but my heart breaks for his family. Life is a precious thing folks and it goes on for all left behind. Put those you love in your focus knowing it can all end in a moment. Prayers to his family and please donate to his family at Zion Canyon brew Pub in Springdale…

    Away Down the River
    Baby, dry your eyes
    There’s no need to cry
    Cause I’ll see you again
It might be a while before you understand

I’m just away down the river
    A hundred miles or more
    Crossing over Jordan
    To the other shore

    I’ll be standing waiting
    With all who’ve gone before
I’m just away down the river
    A hundred miles or more

Now the pictures on the wall
    Will help you to recall
They’re not there to make you sad
But to remember all the good times we had

I’m just away down the river
    A hundred miles or more
    Crossing over Jordan
    To the other shore

    I’ll be standing waiting
    With all who’ve gone before
I’m just away down the river
    A hundred miles or more

    When it’s time to leave
You’re gonna feel the mountain breeze
And the snow will fill the stream
    And carry you to me

I’m just away down the river
    A hundred miles or more
    Crossing over Jordan
    To the other shore

    I’ll be standing waiting
    With all who’ve gone before
I’m just away down the river
    A hundred miles or more

This man was my brother. He was the most respectable man I’ve known and he will always be my hero.
