Launita Helen Bishop, age 81, passed away June 11, 2016, in St. George, Utah, at the home of her son, Richard and Telina Bishop.

She was born on September 6, 1934, in Kelso, Washington. Launita married the love of her life, Dale S. Bishop, on November 4, 1950, in Kelso, Washington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on May 7, 1958.

She was blessed with seven children: Sharon Davis, Dennis (Becky), Frank Thomas (Tamra), Sandra (Ivan) Christensen, Charles Robert, Joyce (Clifton) Hair, and Richard Dale (Telina); 40 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; sons: Dennis and Charles Robert; and grandson, Taylor Davis.  She is survived by one brother, John; and five sisters: Lillian, Letta, Adelia, Nancy and Penny.

Launita was converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized by her husband on July 3, 1953.  She served in many callings in the church including Scout Leader, Primary and Sunday School Teacher, Visiting Teacher, and in the Relief Society Presidency. She served a mission with her husband at the St. George LDS Bishop’s Storehouse for two years.

Launita loved quilting, embroidery work, genealogy, dogs, fishing, bird watching, lighthouses, and family pictures. She had a great love for her husband and family.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at the Cotton Manor LDS Ward Chapel, 2583 E. 350 North, St. George, Utah.
  • A visitation will be held Saturday prior to services from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Chapel.
  • Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
