Founders Weekend, billed as “Southern Utah’s biggest entrepreneurial conference ever,” will take place at the Electric Theater, 68 E. Tabernacle St., St. George, over the three-day period.

More than 16 presenters from Los Angeles, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Portland, Oregon; St. George area and northern Utah will lead attendees through discussions of resources needed to start, grow and scale their own businesses while at the same time promoting St. George as an entrepreneurship-friendly city, the organizer’s news release said.

The presenters include founders, designers, hackers, marketers, thought leaders, educators and city officials.

In addition to the various presentations, participants will have the opportunity to work with a panel of mentors in developing their ideas, culminating in a pitching competition. Participants will be invited to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win cash and prizes.

Networking opportunities will be everywhere during the weekend along with workshops, panel discussions and games.

“We’re also planning a post conference dinner with specific city officials and some of the founders coming in from other cities to talk about Southern Utah’s pro business strategies,” Outlier founder Ever Gonzalez said. “We want to help put southern Utah on the entrepreneurial map!”

Outlier’s conference last year, “Startup Weekend,” promised entrepreneurs: “No talk, all action. Launch a startup in 54 hours.” It was held in the Outlier Labs building in St. George and attended by 100 people, Gonzalez said. See video footage of the 2016 Startup Weekend here.

This year, the event organizers are expecting 300 people to register and attend the conference.

Participating partners include Dixie State University, Utah State University and the City of St. George along with several other sponsors.
