SkyWest adds daily flight to Phoenix

St. George – SkyWest Airlines announced Thursday the company is adding a daily, round-trip American Airlines flight between St. George and Phoenix, Arizona, beginning Nov. 4.

The new destination between the St. George Regional Airport and the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will open up more options to local travelers, Chip Childs, SkyWest, Inc. CEO, said in a press release.

“We’re pleased to add a third destination and major airline partner for St. George travelers, and Phoenix is a great option as a key American Airlines hub,” Childs said. “In addition to the United and Delta service we currently provide, this flight makes it easier than ever for St. George passengers to connect to destinations across the globe on American Airlines. There’s never been a better time to Fly SGU.”

St. George Mayor Jon Pike said he is excited about the addition of Phoenix to the city’s regional airport hub.

“The citizens of southern Utah are fortunate to have SkyWest, the largest regional airline in the world, headquartered right here in St. George,” Pike said. “We appreciate having them as our air service partner and are excited about the economic opportunities that this American Airlines Phoenix flight will bring to our region.”

From Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, travelers can access over 300 daily departures and 79 nonstop destinations around the world on American Airlines. St. George customers who fly American may also accrue AAdvantage Miles as members of American’s AAdvantage loyalty program.

The conveniently scheduled daily round-trip flight is ideally timed for business and leisure travelers, providing optimal connection opportunities in Phoenix. The once daily flights are one hour five minutes and are scheduled to leave St. George at 8 a.m. Return flights leave Phoenix at 5 p.m., arriving in St. George at 7:05 p.m.

The new service to Phoenix, operated by SkyWest Airlines as American Eagle, provides a third major carrier and destination to St. George travelers and more access than any other community of its size.

The flight will be operated by SkyWest utilizing the 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ200). SkyWest is a leading CRJ200 operator and has been named the manufacturer’s most reliable operator in North America five times.

Customers may book beginning Saturday, Aug. 13, at www.aa.com or by calling American reservations at (800) 433-7300.

So at $524 to fly to SLC and back and $725 to fly to Phoenix and back we want to use this service why???? Who cares. The airport is a waste of time and money unless you are rich. You can get cheap tickets in Las Vegas.

when are we ever gonna get a real airline? never?

    • An actual Independent August 12, 2016 at 4:12 pm

Look at it from the standpoint of an airline: It takes tens of thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of pounds of jet fuel to fly what you consider a “real airplane”. If I run an airline, am I going to go to St George, where I might sell tickets to twelve whiney, coupon clipping soccer moms and 7 grandparents “on a fixed income”……or am I going to keep flying full, overbooked flights in and out of Las Vegas?

Even Jerry Atkin at your local airline has said they’ll provide all the flights we’re willing to pay for.

So, no, until we’re willing to pay the bill for it, we won’t be seeing any big airlines here.

Until they bring back a flight to the west coast ,
SGU is useless to me .
LVS becomes the alternative until then And
a real reason to sell the house & move to a location with a viable airport .
