Film ‘Vaxxed’ about vaccination controversies, to be shown in St. George

ST. GEORGE – Thanks to the efforts of a local mother, the movie Vaxxed: From Cover-up to Catastrophe” will be shown in a St. George theater.

Jolene Stewart, the mother of an 11-year-old boy who suffers what she believes are vaccination-induced food allergies, wanted to see the movie without having to drive to Las Vegas. After doing some research, she began trying to get the movie shown locally by rallying friends and acquaintances through social media.

The film can be brought to smaller communities if enough tickets are presold through Gathr Films, which then arranges for a local showing. The required number of pre-sold tickets, 66–100 tickets, were sold for the St. George screening within two days, she said.

“Wednesday night we were given the ability to reserve tickets,” Stewart said. “By this morning, it had sold out,” Stewart said Friday.

The movie will be shown Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres Sunset Stadium, 1091 N. Bluff St., St George. Stewart is now working on getting another local showing of the film arranged.

Stewart is not against vaccinations, she said, but because of her own research and experience, she does not believe the current vaccine formulations are safe.

“There are potentially ways to make us safe,” Stewart said.

Stewart’s son developed an allergy within a couple of weeks of receiving a flu shot, she said, an issue that brings misery and inconvenience to her son and her family. After years of struggle with mysterious, golf-ball-size hives, she discovered that her son is allergic to food dyes and preservatives.

“I’ve seen how it has affected my child,” Stewart said. “He will not be vaccinated (again), nor will any future children.”

According to the Facebook page Bring “Vaxxed” to Utah, the movie is an investigation into how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention purportedly destroyed data on their 2004 study that showed a link between the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine and autism.

“It’s not an anti-vaccination movie,” Stewart said. “We want to petition the government to use certain criteria for safe vaccines.”

The film calls for the following steps:

  • That Congress subpoena Dr. William Thompson and investigate what it calls the CDC fraud.
  • That Congress repeal the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act and hold manufacturers liable for injury caused by their vaccines.
  • That the single measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine be made available immediately.
  • That all vaccines be classified as pharmaceutical drugs and tested accordingly.

Read the film’s about page here.

The film is directed by Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the doctor who first linked vaccines and autism in an article in the medical journal “Lancet.” The article was later retracted by the “Lancet” editors, and Wakefield was stripped of his medical license in the United Kingdom.

According to a Snopes.com article about the movie, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a statement regarding the data in question, with instructions for accessing the study at the center of the controversy.

As the CDC noted, according to the Snopes.com article, the authors of that study suggested that the most likely explanation for the small correlation between autism and vaccination in young, African American boys was the existence of immunization requirements for autistic children enrolled in special education preschool programs.

To further explore the issue, Snopes recommends posts on Scienceblogs.com.

I hope we don’t see an article in the future entitled, “Thanks to the efforts of a local mother, St. George now has an epidemic of whooping cough” . And this because of a film made by a man who lost his license to practice medicine. While I think that vaccinations should be more tailored (doctors are willing to do this) to the needs of an individual child, the type of information in the film is, frankly, dangerous and gives all vaccines a bad name. I suggest viewers of the movie and the general public read this article from the Washington Post.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2016/05/25/7-things-about-vaccines-and-autism-that-the-movie-vaxxed-wont-tell-you/

    • Bob August 13, 2016 at 4:36 pm

the film is about the gov’t (CDC) actively covering up and destroying data. If the CDC wasn’t run by the same folks that run the for profit vaccine industry there would actually be people going to prison over it. The lesson here: if you’ve got enough cash to buy influence then you’re above the law. I know you mormons are constantly taught to always trust authority figures, but buyer beware in the case of vaccines. better whooping cough than permanent mental retardation.

      • KarenS August 14, 2016 at 1:47 pm

So, “better whooping cough than permanent mental retardation”? There is no link between vaccines and autism, if that is what you meant by mental retardation, but there is plenty of information about the devastating effects of whooping cough. Pertussis, or the 100 day cough, can be fatal. Common complications include pneumonia, bronchitis, encephalopathy, earache, and seizures. Infection in newborns (who can’t get the vaccine until they are older anyway) is particularly severe. Pertussis is fatal in an estimated 1.6% of hospitalized US infants under one year of age. We don’t need epidemics of this disease that can be prevented by vaccine.

“There is no link between vaccines and autism”

this is the same tired old song sung by those making billions in the industry. This whole vaxxed movie is about how there IS evidence, and our trusty old CDC lied, schemed, and covered it up. i have nothing more to add to this thread. y’all should probly see the film if u have babies of vaccine age. take care

    • Bob August 13, 2016 at 4:46 pm

yea, and washingtonpost is run by zionists and so is the CDC, don’t expect neutrality or honesty from the chosen ones, ever…

      • Maurine August 14, 2016 at 2:53 pm

Bob-why would you bring in your anti-semitic views into an article about the movie Vaxxed?

        • Bob August 14, 2016 at 5:19 pm

they run the vaccine industry and the CDC

          • Bob August 14, 2016 at 5:49 pm

i forget which head of the CDC went to work heading merck’s vaccine dept. the truth is only “anti-semitic” to those who don’t like the truth

          • Bob August 14, 2016 at 5:51 pm

looks like it was the zionist Dr. Julie Gerberding

  • Brian August 13, 2016 at 4:59 pm

The film is based on a hoax that was debunked two years ago.

To put it bluntly, Wakefield is a scam artist, and supporting his him is perpetuating his dangerous agenda.

    • Brian August 13, 2016 at 5:00 pm

      *his film

    • Bob August 13, 2016 at 9:45 pm

what’s the hoax and where was it debunked? sources pls?

i have no intent of seeing this film until it’s free somewhere, and really, there’s about nothing more annoying than listening to hours of sob stories about babies getting mentally brain damaged (“autististic”) from vaccines. Wakefield is a bit eccentric, but he has given some good talks I watched on youtube. It seems that those wanting him labelled as a fraud or a hoaxer usually represent the trillion dollar vaccine industry. Don’t know much about the guy, really. I do know that if I had some babies around I’d very skeptical of the CDC’s childhood vaccine schedule, and vaccines in general. The CDC is there to serve the trillion dollar industry, not the public interest. I would not say “don’t vaccine ever” I’d just say do the research, make an informed choice–I’d never in this life follow the CDC schedule though, seems to much like deliberate poisoning. Your typical pediatrician knows very very little about vaccines–just what they’re told in gov’t literature (more corrupt CDC propaganda), and your typical pediatrician will be a very loud advocate for the CDC schedule 99% of the time–it isn’t their fault how they were trained, and it’s taboo for them to question the system–also comes with liability. Always ALways be skeptical of anything from CDC, FDA, etc etc. If I was a mormon with babies I’d probly pay to see the film. If u feel guilty about it u can always confess to the bishop later

well, looks like i wrote another short novel on the issue, y’all have a good day/night.

  • Bob August 13, 2016 at 5:15 pm

a manufacturer data sheet for one vaccine even lists autism as a potential adverse event. The manufacturers know that these chemical brews in these vaccines have caused babies to become brain damaged or retarded, but for folks in the pharma industry or in gov’t (or in the mormon church, lol) money takes priority above public health in every case. Folks with brain damaged autism children understand this all too well, but so long as money keeps flowing to all the -wrong- places nothing will be done. I don’t even know anyone with autism, so it’s kind of an ‘oh well’ type thing to me, but I find the levels of corruption in the vaccine/pharma industry, and still the public’s continued trust in it to be nuts, but mass media, pharma, gov’t–all run by the same cabal of elitists, so… oh well i guess

    • KarenS August 14, 2016 at 1:35 pm

Please, Bob, do no perpetuate the myth that “a data sheet for one vaccine even lists autism as a potential adverse event.” The has been thoroughly discredited. Read the snopes article for a full explanation. In fact, try reading snopes articles having to do with all the falsehoods about vaccines. And, no, I don’t work for big pharma. I am a grandmother and grew up with the very real occurences that parents had with the devastating effects of polio (my neighbor in an iron lung), whooping cough (babies that died with it), mumps (boys that became sterile), measles, etc. Frankly, I am amazed that we will apparently have to live through some epidemics of these childhood diseases before people realize the value of vaccines that save lives.

      • Bob August 14, 2016 at 2:44 pm

vaccines have devolved from something designed for the public good to a purely profit-driven trillion dollar racket. that’s why they’re giving a vaccine for a sexually transmitted disease to grade schoolers.

i’ve seen the data sheet, maybe i’ll hunt it up

      • Bob August 14, 2016 at 3:25 pm

right on the FDA’s site http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/ApprovedProducts/UCM101580.pdf … wonder how much ad revenue this “snopes” takes in from vaccines…

        • Bob August 14, 2016 at 3:29 pm

and i’m sure “snopes” has some cleaver pro-industry excuse of why its in there. it’s called propaganda

          • KarenS August 14, 2016 at 4:31 pm

It is pointless for me or anyone else to try and explain anything to the anti-government, “snopes is lying” group at this point. And, Bob you are still wrong about the data sheet which has been explained many times. The word “autism” does appear in the data sheet but is self-reported, along with everything else under the sun that parents reported after their child received a vaccine. It is not a “potential adverse side-effect”.

          • Bob August 15, 2016 at 1:11 pm

the vaccine court has paid out millions$$ in many many cases to vaccine injured children whose diagnosis was autism or brain damage. To say “vaccines never cause autism” is just a lie. It’s about people blindly trusting pharma and CDC more than anything. Pharma controls CDC and they are both corrupt and rotten to the core

          • Bob August 15, 2016 at 1:17 pm

“Adverse events reported during post-approval use of Tripedia vaccine include idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, SIDS,
anaphylactic reaction, cellulitis, autism, convulsion/grand mal convulsion, encephalopathy, hypotonia, neuropathy, somnolence
and apnea. Events were included in this list because of the seriousness or frequency of reporting. Because these events are
reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequencies or to
establish a causal relationship to components of Tripedia vaccine.2 ”
            ———————————–
AND THIS PASSAGE HERE “Events were included in this list because of the seriousness or frequency of reporting”
It means these events were reported many many times. If it was just garbage info then why didn’t they throw it out? why is it on the sheet? I’d say because it’s legit, and they know it’s legit…

          • Bob August 15, 2016 at 1:21 pm

and snope.com is not gonna publish anything that compromises their ad revenue esp lucrative pharma and vaccine ads. thats all

  • homer498 August 13, 2016 at 7:21 pm

I think we should allow all parents who don’t want to vaccinate their kids to do so; so long as they sign off all possible social & medical services to those children in the event they need life time assistance for Polio, or some other such disease eradicated long ago from vaccination.

  • Chris August 14, 2016 at 12:31 am

This is another article of questionable value written by Julie Applegate. Although she references the Snopes article, it not made clear that Snopes devastatingly debunks the claims made by the film. Andrew Wakefield is a quack, plain and simple. While potential side effects exist for any drug or medicine, vaccination is clearly one of the premier accomplishments of medical science. Wakefield and his ilk are science deniers, and Applegate does us all a disservice in giving him any attention.

    • Bob August 14, 2016 at 12:07 pm

and you’re the product of years of hard neo-liberal indoctrination and blind trust in gov’t. what are the stats now, 1 in 45 children now on the autism spectrum? autism was unheard of a few decades ago — i know you’ll have a barrel of excuses for that too from neo-lib sources. cheers

  • dhamilton2002 August 14, 2016 at 9:22 am

This whole “controversy” about Autism and vaccination has been totally debunked over and over again by every reputable scientific study done. Don’t waste your money by seeing this piece of trash!

  • ladybugavenger August 14, 2016 at 1:58 pm

I was vaccinated and I turned out Good….LOL! It wasn’t vaccines that jacked me up it was people. Dang liars, manipulators, and deceitful people ( that was just family) But, now, God willing, I can see them coming and I step away.

Thank you for this thorough explanation of “VaxXed.” It seems that our elected officials and most of the media aren’t interested in what Dr. Thompson revealed to Dr. Hooker.

In the film Thompson alleged that he was ordered by his superiors to destroy findings that showed a causal link between the MMR vaccine and autism in African American boys. He further revealed multiple corrupt practices at this agency.

Thompson: “They don’t really want people to know that this data exists.”

Thompson: “…among the blacks, the ones that were getting vaccinated earlier, were more likely to have autism.”

Thompson: “It appears in the final publication is that race in general is downplayed. Of course it is.”

Thompson: “I actually think the most interesting results are the isolated, ones that don’t have their co morbid conditions. The effect is where you would think it would happen.”

Thompson: “I was just looking at—I was like, oh my God, I cannot believe we did what we did. But we did.”

Thompson: “The higher ups wanted to do certain things and I went along with it. In terms of change of command, I was number four out of five. “

Thompson: “…Literally, everyone else got rid of all their documents, and so the only documents that exist right now from that study are mine.”

Thompson: “There are things that I haven’t even shared with you because I can’t prove it, and that’s what I struggle with. I don’t want to share things with you that I can’t prove, that there aren’t hard records. I am worried that the other four people will collude and say no, that’s not true.”

Thompson: “That’s what I keep seeing again, and again, and again where these senior people just do completely unethical, vile things and no one holds them accountable. “

Thompson: “The reason you don’t see anything else circulating on the study, it was five of us behind closed doors for two years.”

Thompson: “It’s the lowest point in my career that I went along with that paper.”

Hooker talking to Thompson: “You and I are in agreement: vaccine safety shouldn’t be in the CDC.”

Thompson: “Absolutely. You would end up with an agency like the National Transportation Safety Board.”

The whole setup of vaccines in this country is designed

  • Anne August 14, 2016 at 2:07 pm

to benefit the industry that produces them and to hold no one liable for injuries. The federal government has indemnified the vaccine makers. No vaccine producer or doctor can be sued if a child is injured. There is no pretesting done to determine which children may be at risk for a vaccine reaction. And all over the country pharma-funded lobbying groups are working to influence lawmakers to abolish a parent’s right to exempt their child, like they did in California.

There is no informed consent when babies and small children receive 5, 6, or 8 vaccines in a single doctor’s visit. Nothing is said about the fact that the federal government has quietly paid out billions of dollars for vaccine injuries and millions in compensation for over 80 known cases of vaccine injury that involved autism. In 2008, medical experts at HHS conceded the claim of vaccine-induced autism in the case of Hannah Poling, yet the CDC continues to say that there is no proof that vaccines cause autism.

Thanks to the mother, the newspaper and the writer for offering us both sides of the vaccine story. It is so rare that we get a glimpse of unbiased journalism. Yes, the movie is incredible as are the directors and producers. It has or is being shown in over 500 cities all over the country-mostly to sell out crowds. See the movie, do your homeowrk and make your own decision about vaccinating yourself and your children.
Where there is risk, there must be choice. We are asking for personal health choices in all areas including vaccines. If you choose to give your child 73 vaccines by the time they are 18, that should be your personal choice. Everyone should have their constitutional right to say no.
I have only one problem with this [piece and that is quoting Snopes. Snopes is nothing more that a married couple with limited education who sometimes get it right, but usually perpetuate mis-information.

This whole anti-vaccine movement, in my opinion, is a powerful testament to the beneficial abilities of the vaccines themselves. We’ve lived in a world where no one has to worry about diseases like Small Pox and Polio for so long that people have begun to doubt/forget that vaccines are vital for prolonged human existence.
