CEDAR CITY —Fire crews responded to a residential fire Saturday night and found a house engulfed in flames by the time they got there, authorities said.

Cedar City Fire Department was dispatched around 6:45 p.m. to a home located at 604 S. 2175 West.

When the call came in, firefighters were out at another unrelated scene and were able to respond within minutes.

The fire spread quickly, however, and by the time crews arrived it was obvious they weren’t going to be able to save the residence, Battalion Chief Tyler Jensen said.

“We were here within a few minutes and it looked like it had been burning for a little while by then,” he said.

It was unknown initially whether anyone was inside the home but owners were later located off site. It was determined no one had been inside when the fire started.

At the time of publication, authorities were still investigating the cause of the fire.

Red Cross planned to put the family up for the night and help with future arrangements, Jensen said.

The homeowners were unavailable for comment.
