HURRICANE – A 13-year-old girl was injured Monday when she lost control of a motorcycle she was riding in a residential Hurricane neighborhood. While no citations have been issued as of the publication of this article, law enforcement has stated that she shouldn’t have been riding the motorcycle to begin with.
Hurricane Police Department were dispatched to the incident at 10:56 a.m., Officer Jeff Adams said.
“We had a 13-year-old female driving a 2007 dirt bike,” Adams said. “She was driving it just north of her residence in the cul-de-sac. For unknown reasons, she lost control of that dirt bike and collided with a metal street light pole.”
The incident happened near the girl’s residence in the area of 900 N. 300 West Circle. The girl sustained injuries to her upper extremities, Adams said, and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
The girl was riding a smaller Honda RF7, Adams said. No citations have been issued, but the investigation is still ongoing. Additionally, Adams said it was not legal for the girl to be riding a dirt bike on a city street.
“We do have a city ordinance against that as well as state law,” Adams said. “For her age and for the use of (an) OHV.”
Dirt bikes are considered off-highway vehicles, Adams said. Riders under the age of 16 cannot ride off-highway vehicles within Hurricane city limits and are prohibited from riding without direct parental or adult supervision.
Adams recommends that citizens not operate off-highway vehicles in town unless they are familiar with city codes specifying the conditions under which it is legal.
There are a few designated routes within Hurricane where OHV use is allowed; all these streets lead directly to Sand Hollow or Warner Valley OHV areas, Adams said.
Three officers from Hurricane Police Department responded to the incident, along with personnel from Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

It’s illegal to forget a baby in a hot car in hurricane too but that didn’t stop anyone from not filing charges. This 13 yr old learned her lesson, she has suffered enough…..its not like she killed anybody. Right?
i’ve spent some time in hurricane–they have the most redneck, unpleasant cops i’ve ever dealt with. The laverkin cops i’ve dealt with were pleasant and friendly. kids ride their little mini dirt bikes on the block who frickin cares? let the kids have fun. don’t need some arrogant redneck small town cop to give us all a lecture
I agree with you Bob. It has been Decades since I’ve heard any one say, what used to be common…”It’s a Free Country”
She should have had a helmet on. Period.
they should be called the HITLER SS of hurricane. that’s how they act. complete redneck power trip
Well that’s your opinion Bob. but it’s obvious you have social issues.
Not sure I see a problem.
I was there 5 seconds after it happen. I saw it happen. Her head hit the poll. No helmet. My neighbor called 911. I stood by her to shade her from hot sun. I keep talking to her to keep her awake. Child complained she had no feeling in her body and drifted in and out of consciousness. Dad walked over from down the street. By this time, she said her legs hurt but had some feeling. None in arm though. Mom walked over right before she was taken away by medical. When medical took her to ER. PD stated she probably had a concussion and broken arm. Parents never said anything to me nor my neighbor. I pray she is ok. Life lesson for sure!
