ST. GEORGE — When the brakes on a vehicle reportedly failed in traffic Tuesday morning, the driver of the vehicle smashed into a van before hitting a motorcycle at the intersection of 1000 East and 100 South in St. George.
All three vehicles involved in the collision were traveling west on 100 South near Dixie State University at approximately 9:58 a.m. when the crash occurred, St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said.
The white van was stopped in the left turn lane to turn onto 1000 East while the motorcycle was in the lane next to the van waiting at the stoplight to continue west.
When the driver of a blue Chevrolet car approached the stoplight, the driver reportedly hit his brakes but soon found out they didn’t work, Hale said.
As a result of the alleged brake failure, Hale said the blue Chevrolet smashed into the side of the van before ricocheting off and crashing into the motorcycle.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash, Hale said. However, the Chevrolet and the van were rendered inoperable and had to be towed from the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet was issued a citation for negligent collision and operating an unsafe vehicle, Hale said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
