“We have a 2002 Mercedes CLK 320 eastbound on Riverside Drive, waiting to turn left on River Road,” St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said. “The vehicle westbound on Riverside Drive, heading straight through the intersection was a 2012 Chevy Captiva. She (the Chevy driver) was approaching the signal.”

The signal turned green for the Chevy driver, so she started through the intersection.

The Mercedes driver, thinking he had the right of way, turned left in front of the Chevy and the two cars crashed in the middle of the intersection.

“Injuries in both vehicles,” Hale said, “In the Mercedes was a gentleman who said his right hip and ribs hurt from the airbag deployment, and in the westbound vehicle (the Chevy), female driver in that vehicle is claiming back pain as well. ”

Both drivers were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George to be treated for their injuries. The Mercedes driver was taken by ambulance and the Chevy driver by private vehicle.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the intersection. Hale said the driver of the Mercedes would be issued a citation for failure to yield on a left turn.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
