HURRICANE — Two people were taken to the hospital Friday evening in the wake of a collision involving two vehicles at 3700 W. State Street in Hurricane that also closed down Sand Hollow Road for a time.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., law enforcement and emergency responders received a call that two vehicles crashed and traffic was backing up, Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said.
Upon arrival, officers found a couple – a 50-year-old woman and her 55-year-old passenger – still in the vehicle, a white 2016 Honda CRV. Both were reportedly injured but conscious.
Emergency medical personnel tended to the couple, who were in stable condition, before both were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by ambulance, Buell said.
The second vehicle involved, a 1994 GMC Sierra, and its 47-year old driver told officers that he, along with his three passengers, was not injured.
Traffic control was quickly initiated and vehicles backing up were directed into a single westbound lane on State Street. Sand Hollow Road was closed to allow emergency personnel to tend to the scene and clear debris.
Officers determined after taking statements at the scene that the woman driving the Honda was traveling east on W. State Street and as she approached the Sand Hollow Road intersection she made a left hand turn on a yellow traffic light.
Meanwhile, the man driving west in the GMC struck the Honda as the woman turned left directly in front of him, a collision that sent both vehicles spinning out of control on the side of the Sand Hollow Road intersection.
According to police all occupants in the two vehicles were wearing seat belts and airbags were deployed in the Honda.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage from the collision and were subsequently towed from the scene.
The incident is under investigation. The woman driving the Honda will be cited for failing to yield, Buell said.

Sounds like they both should be cited they were both running the yellow light. And if anyone knows the cops out here they love to give tickets!!! Especially if you’re not even running a yellow light!!! It’s their word against yours and they always win!!!
