ST. GEORGE — An alert citizen immediately contacted police after noticing two people taking seven packages from a neighbor’s doorstep in Ivins Tuesday, giving police a description of the two suspects along with the vehicle they were driving. The suspects were subsequently arrested on charges of mail theft.
The witness notified officers that a man and a woman were seen taking the mail packages from a neighbor’s front doorstep before driving away, according to a probable cause statement filed by the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department in support of the arrests.
The witness provided officers with a description of the two suspects and their white Honda Odyssey van with Arizona plates.
At approximately 5:43 p.m. Tuesday, police located the suspects – identified as 39-year-old Michael Joe Marcelino and 31-year-old Lindsay Anne Marcelino, both of Littlefield, Arizona – at the Shivwits Convenience Store located at 5861 W. Old Highway 91 in Ivins, according to the statement.
Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, police located seven opened mail packages along with the stolen contents of the packages, the arresting officer wrote in a sworn statement.
Police also found three empty mail package boxes on a nearby roadway matching the description of the packages taken from the doorstep, the reported stated.
The two were taken into police custody. During questioning police said one of the suspects admitted that the two had stolen the property. Police did not specify who made the admission of guilt.
The duo was transported and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.
The Washington County Attorney’s Office filed an Information in 5th District Court accusing Michael and Lindsay Marcelino each of seven class A misdemeanor counts of mail theft along with three infractions for littering.
Michael Marcelino is set to appear in 5th District Court before Judge Eric Ludlow for an arraignment Thursday afternoon. Lindsay Marcelino is scheduled to appear before Judge Jeffrey Wilcox Thursday afternoon for her arraignment.
According to a Dec. 10, 2015 report by MCNTV News, this isn’t the Marcelino’s first run-in with the law.
Michael Marcelino – an alleged convicted car thief – and his wife Lindsay Marcelino were caught on camera at a Merced, California, liquor store in a Ford SUV that had allegedly been stolen from an elderly woman who had left the car warming up while she helped her grandchildren get ready for school, according to the report from Merced County News Television.
When the woman’s daughter-in-law later happened to see the Ford SUV at the liquor store, she reportedly confronted the Marcelino’s and engaged in a tussle with Michael Marcelino, MCNTV News stated in its report. Michael Marcelino took off in the SUV, dragging the woman, and the whole thing was caught on camera, according to the news agency.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Regardless of how good your town is , they are Not immune to criminals .
We all now have to use safety precautions & I would not have packages delivered to an exposed area .
I would opt for pick up at the local UPS office ( or whomever is shipping ) .
Wait , does the USPS have that option ?
