Dixie State homecoming parades the streets red, wild and free

ST. GEORGE — School spirit could be felt and heard for blocks Saturday morning as Dixie State University’s “Homecoming Parade” filled Tabernacle Street, embracing its Red, Wild and Free theme. Paraders of all sorts, in all sizes, costumes and conveyances made their way beaming and bright down the parade route between 700 East and Main Street in Historic Downtown St. George

Many of the University’s clubs and organizations participated in the parade – wrestling, theatre and even scuba club, to name a few.

University programs and sports were featured. Whether dance, cheer, nursing or others, students came out to give their milieu and specialties representation. All the while, Brooks the Bison zigged and zagged down the parade route, shaking hands and rousing Trailblazer spirit.

There were floats, there were carts, there were horses and even the Old Salty Train came in from Ruby’s Inn in Bryce Canyon.

“I love this,” said George Whitehead, Dixie State’s former vice president. “I love parades, I love the bands, I love the music, I love the enthusiasm, I love seeing little kids get excited to see the people in these parades”

Saturday is the final day of Homecoming Week, culminating in a time-honored tradition at Dixie State: kissing in the fountain at midnight.
