Charlene Albarran responds to Chris Stewart’s renewed commitment to Trump

ST. GEORGE — Rep. Chris Stewart announced Wednesday in an informal meet-and-greet in Southern Utah involving other Republican candidates that despite his former calls for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to step down, he is ultimately still planning on voting for him. In response, one of Stewart’s contenders for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, Democrat Charlene Albarran, issued a statement condemning what she labeled as Stewart’s “flip-flopping.”

Following the release of the controversial video at the beginning of October with Donald Trump making derogatory comments regarding women, Stewart joined several other prominent Republicans asking Trump to “step aside.”

“At that time, I was so disappointed in Trump that I did ask him to step down and did think Mike Pence should be out leader, but that didn’t happen,” Stewart said Wednesday. “Mr. Trump is still the nominee. He’s still the person running against Hillary Clinton.”

In response to Stewart’s decision to give his support to Trump, Albarran released the following statement:

Last summer, Chris Stewart called Donald Trump our modern day Mussolini. Three weeks later, he endorsed him, following an endorsement from Jason Chaffetz. Earlier this month, following comments from Chaffetz disavowing Trump, Stewart denounced Trump a second time, clearly stating he would NOT vote for Donald Trump. But last night, following Jason Chaffetz’s declaration that he will support Trump after all, Chris Stewart, followed again, also flip-flopped back to supporting Trump, declaring he will vote for Trump this year.

Where are Stewart’s standards for good judgment? Utah needs a leader, not a follower. We need a representative with solid decisions to stand up for what is right, someone who is firmly grounded in correct principles, not someone who simply drifts with the tide. This is a clear display of Rep. Stewart’s lack of judgment and I urge my fellow Utahns to give me their support in this election.

Albarran is running on a theme of “Unity for Utah.” She has said that she is seeking to represent moderate Republican, Democrat and unaffiliated voters.

Albarran’s background includes starting three businesses that range from an acting and modeling agency to aviation rentals. She has also served on the boards of various companies. She also created two philanthropic organizations, one in Mexico City and the other in Salt Lake City, related to combating homelessness.

Chris Stewart will take the mormon vote and the election–the benefit to having a bunch of sheep stamped with the brand L.D.S.

Hahaha- he isn’t ‘flip flopping’… he is simply ‘evolving’.

Remember how many times Obama used the ‘evolving’ excuse? Yeah, we’ve all lost count now…

Glad to see Stewart supporting the nominee of his party and shame on those calling themselves conservative would actually vote for the socialist Hillary Clinton. Gee, I just can’t wait for when they leave the White House again with the furniture and artwork like last time. That speaks nothing of our basic liberties she can barely tolerate.

It is really pretty simple. It is called stopping the hemorrhage of “political capital”.
Sen. Ted Cruz also refused to support/endorse Trump. Then he realized it was costing him “political capital”. So he backed up and took a look at where his political career was heading, (especially in 2020), so he decided that he would, should support Trump and come out publicly and say he was voting for him. Chris Stewart merely did the same. Chaffetz and Hatch did the same, (although why Hatch did it is a mystery since he just might croak before he comes up for re-election).
Other Utah holdouts, Mia Love and Mike Lee will probably vote for Trump but don’t want to make it public. So they keep the faux Trump bashing, thinking it will win them votes, as they are up for re-election this November as well.
If they fail to truly support Trump, and Hillary wins the White House, I wonder how effective Love and Lee will be at trying to do their best for their constituents under a Hillary Clinton administration.
