Film Fanatics: Two Toms and a Oujia board

REVIEW – Director Ron Howard follows up adaptations of Dan Brown’s bestselling novels “The DaVinci Code” and “Angels and Demons” with the twisty thriller “Inferno.” Tom Hanks returns as scholarly adventurer Robert Langdon. This time, a disoriented Langdon teams with a doctor (played by Felicity Jones) in Italy in hopes that they can put a stop to a most diabolical plot. Does “Inferno” bring the heat, or is it as cold as ice?

In “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” Tom Cruise returns in the title role. This time, the mysterious ex-military man is implicated in a murder, and while on the run with another accused soldier, he’s brought face to face with a teenager who may or may not be his daughter. Does “Never Go Back” hit the mark, or does it overreach?

In “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” a young girl is able to consort with the dead after playing with a Ouija board, and it turns out that her new friend from the afterlife might not have her best interests at heart. Does Mike Flanagan’s ’60s-set prequel one up its forgettable predecessor in the scare department, or is it simply more of the same?

Resident film gurus Bruce Bennett and Adam Mast close out this jam packed episode of “Film Fanatics” with a brief look at Southern Utah’s Horror-Fest and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
