Film Fanatics: ‘Rules Don’t Apply’ and ‘Bad Santa 2’

REVIEW — In this episode of “Film Fanatics,” Adam Mast and Bruce Bennett discuss the return of Warren Beatty as a director with “Rules Don’t Apply” and a Christmas movie for people who don’t like Christmas movies, “Bad Santa 2.”

“Rules Don’t Apply” marks Warren Beatty’s first directorial effort since 1998’s “Bulworth.” In the film, eccentric recluse Howard Hughes (played by Beatty) gets in the way of a potential romance between an aspiring actress (Lily Collins) and a driver for hire (Alden Ehrenreich).  Adam and Bruce try to find common ground on whether to see, stream or just outright skip “Rules Don’t Apply.”

In “Bad Santa 2,” Billy Bob Thornton returns as foul-mouthed alcoholic Willie Soke. This time, the irritable burnout teams with his estranged mother, Sunny (Kathy Bates), and fellow thief Marcus (Tony Cox) in an effort to rob a children’s charity foundation. Is “Bad Santa 2” naughty or nice?

Film Fanatics Bruce Bennett and Adam Mast also chime in on the box-office juggernaut that is “Moana.”
