ST. GEORGE — Police are asking the community to help solve a case in which a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted (see ed. CORRECTIVE note below) by a man in her home in St. George.
The alleged sexual assault was reported April 17 after midnight at a home on north Main Street.
The perpetrator is suspected to have entered the residence through an unlocked door, according to a news release issued by the St. George Police Department Friday.
“The male suspect entered the bedroom and sexually assaulted the elderly female victim,” the news release reads.
Several officers were on scene within five minutes of the initial call to dispatch and police detectives have subsequently investigated the incident by interviewing neighbors and following up on any leads, according to the news release. Authorities are now looking to the public for assistance with the case.
The suspect was described to police as a white male with a medium build and wavy light colored hair.
Anyone with possible information about the case is asked to call the department’s investigations division tip line at 435-627-4338.
“We encourage the citizens of St. George to report any suspicious activity and to secure your residence and vehicles at all times,” the news release reads.
Ed. note April 30, 2018 – CORRECTION: In the first sentence and headline of an earlier version of this report the alleged offense was characterized as a rape; the alleged offense is sexual assault, as was indicated in the Police Department’s news release. The report is therefore corrected in that respect.

I’ve previously stated that I didn’t know if I would ever own a gun. UPDATE: I’ve been a handgun owner for 2 weeks. This story is one of the reasons why. My husband wants me to be able to protect myself from intruders I’ve taken a gun safety class and I take the CCW class next weekend. Yes, ladybug and her husband, have joined the gun ownership team ?
Good deal! I am a CCW holder as well, took the class in Dec. However, crime is so low in my area I never carry when out and about. But do keep a piece or two handy in the house. 8)
I hope you’ve actually been practicing shooting it. No amount of classroom time is a substitute. I’m sure you know….
We got to shoot at the class, plus I’m a member at the indoor gun range ?. I will get that practice in!
I’m still not going to open carry at this time, even tho Oklahoma completely allows it, I’m not there yet, if ever.
As soon as I get that ccw tho, I will carry it in my car
I worded that wrong. We got to shoot at the paper targets (50 rounds) I’m not bad but I cant seem to hit the same hole twice.
Good for you! and Carry All the time! And about Carrying in a vehicle (I see your in OK, so may not apply), But in Utah, anyone (except a felon) over the age of 18 can carry in a vehicle, open or concealed without a permit. I’m glad more people, especially women have decided to start packing. Cops very seldom stop a crime in progress, however Armed Citizens do…Everyday.
Way to go!!! We should have the Swiss Gun Control law that requires every citizen to own a gun. I believe violent crimes would be greatly diminished if everyone owned a gun.
People who’ve been convicted of a crime or have an alcohol or drug addiction aren’t allowed to buy guns in Switzerland.
The law also states that anyone who “expresses a violent or dangerous attitude” won’t be permitted to own a gun.
Gun owners who want to carry their weapon for “defensive purposes” also have to prove they can properly load, unload, and shoot their weapon and must pass a test to get a license.
I am 100% for owning, carrying, AND PRACTICING for hand guns. As long as you are legally allowed to own and carry. If you have been dumb enough to be banned from owning a firearm, then you are too dumb to have one.
But if you are going to carry, then keep yourself proficient with it, and keep up with the constantly changing gun laws. As long as we have legislators that are wishy-washy on gun control, these laws will keep changing.
“The suspect was described to police as a white male with a medium build and wavy light colored hair.”
Come on Forum! Where’s the customary southern Utah comment, “stereotypes are true for a reason, it’s always the medium build white guy with wavy light colored hair” ?????
Boy ! this conversation and all these comments about ladybugavenger finally buying a gun is certainly going to help the police solve this case !
Or maybe it will encourage more woman to to pack some heat and not be the victim in next case to solve. ? protect yourself ladies!
