CEDAR CITY — A fire burned through the roof of a storage unit in Cedar City Monday.
Cedar City Fire Department responded to the fire at 465 N. 800 West at 4:37 p.m.
The fire started in the attic of the storage unit and burned through the length of the roof, Cedar City Fire Chief Mike Philips said.
The Fire Department’s response included 27 firefighters and three engines.
“It took us about a half an hour to get it under control,” Philips said.
Crews worked to contain the fire to the attic to prevent it from burning the items stored within the unit.
“We started a salvage operation early on,” Philips said. “We put tarps on top of the stuff to protect it from getting sprayed with water and everything falling in on it.”
The fire was contained to the unit it started in and did not spread to any other structures.
“We’re still investigating the cause,” Philips said.
While its roof was destroyed in the fire, Philips said the building itself is not a total loss. He estimated the damage to be $50,000-$75,000.
There were no injuries associated with the fire.
