ST. GEORGE — Firefighters responded to an early morning blaze that destroyed a fifth-wheel camp trailer and at least one nearby vehicle in Toquerville.

Battalion Chief Kohl Furley of Hurricane Valley Fire District told St. George News the initial call came in shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters arrived in the area of Spring Drive and Cotton Gin Road to find both the trailer and a car parked near it fully involved in flames.

Firefighters from two ladder companies and one engine company were able to extinguish the flames quickly and keep the fire from spreading to nearby areas, Furley said.

Although neighbors had indicated that two people might be inside the trailer at the time of the fire, Furley said it was later determined the occupants were elsewhere.

“They were initially unaccounted for, but we believe they were at a different location,” Furley said, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
