ST. GEORGE — A brief mystery was quickly solved in Mohave County, Arizona, Wednesday evening after an ambulance crew returning on Old Highway 91 discovered an abandoned vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
At 8:15 p.m., an ambulance crew from Beaver Dam Littlefield Fire District was returning from a transport on Old Highway 91 in Arizona near mile marker 4 and came upon a Mini Cooper fully engulfed in flames on the side of the roadway, Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Battalion Chief Andre Ojeda said.
The ambulance crew reported the fire to emergency dispatch and then located the driver walking along Old Highway 91.
Firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, Ojeda said.
The driver of the Mini Cooper told EMTs that she pulled to the side of the highway after she began experiencing car trouble.
Ojeda said it was only after the driver exited the car that she noticed smoke coming from “somewhere near the bottom of the vehicle.”
With no cell service, the driver set off on foot to find a signal so she could call 911 for help, which is where the ambulance crew found her several minutes later.
While the exact cause of the blaze is undetermined, it more than likely started in the undercarriage of the vehicle, Ojeda said, adding that despite their best efforts, the vehicle was destroyed in the fire.
“The Mini Cooper was a total loss.”
No injuries were reported.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and Beaver Dam Littlefield Fire District responded and tended to the scene.
This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
