ST. GEORGE — It’s time to get excited, Southern Utah. Your voices have been heard, the votes have been tabulated and the clock is ticking down to finally find out what businesses you think are the “Best of Southern Utah.”

The inaugural competition, started earlier this year by Canyon Media and partner Intermountain Audiology, gave the community a chance to let their opinions be known about their favorite businesses, and the response was incredible.

Canyon Media general manager Ben Lindquist said that during the nomination period between Jan. 28 and Feb. 13, nearly 1,400 business were nominated by readers, and of those nominations, 924 companies made it to the final voting ballots.

The eight main categories for the competition, for which voting officially ended on March 15, included restaurants, shopping, things to do, health and beauty, home and garden, mechanics, schools, and professional services. Each category had at least four qualified businesses for which residents could vote.

Businesses that made it on the ballot were able to promote the competition inside their businesses and with social media to encourage their loyal customers to give them a vote and let the world know who is best.

People were allowed one vote per day for their favorite businesses, and at last count, over 200,000 reader votes were submitted and used in making the final selections.

Nerus Stategies, LLC, known for their previous work on the “Best of Las Vegas” campaign, partnered with Canyon Media to tabulate the final results and to ensure the contest was transparent, fair and accurate.

Lindquist said winners will be announced Monday morning and can be found both online at BestofSouthernUtah.com as well as in 20,000 magazines to be distributed to locations all around Southern Utah.
