ST. GEORGE – Southern Utah’s Dove Center received a $3,000 grant from the Ironman Foundation, helping the organization continue to provide a safe place for those affected by domestic violence.
The Ironman Foundation presented funds to six nonprofit organizations during a ceremony held May 7 at Town Square Park in St. George from money raised during the Ironman 7.3 triathlon.
The grant will be used to increase community awareness and prevention education in an effort to reduce incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault, according to a press release issued by Dove Center.
“Education programs are so important to begin lowering rates of domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities,” Lindsey Boyer, DOVE Center’s executive director, said in the press release. “Teaching about respect, consent and boundaries to youth as well as adults is vital.”
Community outreach programs aim to help people identify red flags and learn about the characteristics of healthy relationships, such as mutual respect and personal accountability. They also help raise awareness about the free resources available through Dove Center.
“We are grateful for the substantial investment IRONMAN Foundation has made over the years in support of DOVE’s mission, particularly our education and awareness activities,” Adele Pincock, DOVE Center community engagement director, said in the press release. “Their commitment to this community is solid and we so appreciate their ongoing support.”
Dove Center is a nonprofit organization that serves survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault in Washington and Kane counties. The center also works toward a community free from abuse by shifting cultural norms through education and community engagement.
