CEDAR CITY — Region 9’s all-region softball team was recently announced, with Cedar High senior pitcher Kenzie Waters earning most valuable player honors.

As the Lady Reds’ primary pitcher this year, Waters helped lead the team to its third straight undefeated season in region play. Cedar finished 12-0 in Region 9 this year, just as it had last year, when Waters shared pitching duties with then-senior Bryton Holyoak.

Waters, who graduated from Cedar High on Wednesday, will take her talents northward this coming school year, as she has signed to pitch for the College of Southern Idaho’s softball team.

Cedar’s overall record was 22-4 this year, including 2-2 in the playoffs. Waters was the winning pitcher in 19 of Cedar’s victories.

Waters had plenty of offensive help from her teammates, with the Lady Reds averaging more than nine runs per game over the course of the season (242 runs scored in 26 games).

Cedar’s three all-region first team players are Japrix Weaver, who batted .455, hit six home runs and committed just two errors at shortstop all season out of approximately 80 fielding chances; junior Denim Henkel, who batted .391 and led the team with 13 home runs; and junior Britnie Simcox, who batted .408 and hit 10 homers.

Also from Cedar, junior infielder Kylie Oldroyd and her sophomore sister Kelsi Oldroyd made the second team all-region. Kelsi batted .383 and hit eight homers, while Kylie batted .345 and hit three home runs.
