ST. GEORGE — Travelers on Interstate 15 are urged to be aware of lane blockage due to several crashes caused by a heavy hailstorm that moved rapidly into the area early Monday afternoon.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol website, an accident was reported at approximately 12:35 on I-15 southbound at milepost 24, which is 1 mile northeast of Leeds. The accident is causing delays of 5-15 minutes and is expected to be cleared by 1:34 p.m.
In addition, another accident was reported northbound at milepost 23 — also in Leeds — around the same time and is causing less than five minute delays. Estimated clearance time is also around 1:35 p.m.
St. George News has received other reports of accidents in the stretch of interstate. The cause of the crashes seems to be due to a heavy hailstorm that hit the area. According to the National Weather Service, the Leeds area has a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms for Memorial Day. Find current traffic conditions and alerts at the UDOT traffic website.
