As part of its continuing effort to positively impact the health and wellness of our community, St. George’s Findlay Subaru and its fellow retailers nationwide have teamed up again with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or LLS, in June to spread hope, love, warmth and show cancer patients across the country that Subaru “Loves to Care.”

The annual initiative works to donate and deliver blankets and message of hope cards to cancer patients being treated at hospitals, cancer treatment centers and community oncology practices all round the U.S. Since it began in 2015, together with the LLS, they have donated over 105,000 blankets, 12,465 arts and crafts kits and thousands of individual messages of hope written by Subaru customers to patients facing the battle of their lives.

Over the past three years, LLS and Subaru have reached more than 100,000 patients in nearly 700 hospitals, with the help of 500 Subaru retailers.

“These little tokens of appreciation help these patients understand that we’re here for them and we care about what they are going through,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and COO of Subaru of America in a press release for the initiative.

Beginning June 1, Findlay team members asked customers to share their personal messages to those facing cancer in our surrounding area and at a recent ceremony at the Intermountain Cancer Center, 20 messages of hope, along with 100 blankets for adults and children’s arts and crafts kits were delivered to patients.

We’re always grateful to be a part of this event, and to give back to the community,” said David Gourley, general manger of Findlay Subaru St. George. “It means so much that we can partner with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and with our friends at Intermountain Dixie Regional.”

Following Findlay’s donation, attendees were able to tour the new Intermountain Cancer Center and to see the strides that have been made in genomics as it relates to identifying and possibly curing cancer.

LLS exists with the purpose of finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients. The organization has invested more than $1 billion in cutting-edge research to advance cures and better therapies since its inception in 1949 and is the largest nonprofit dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. They work to save lives not someday, but today.

The campaign is part of the larger “Subaru Love Promise” to show love and respect to all people at every interaction with the company and together with their retailers, they are dedicated to making the world a better place. Over the past 20 years, Subaru of America has donated more than $120 million to causes the Subaru family cares about.

“It’s very difficult for the for them to go through this type of treatment, so any little bit that we can help provide in a way of encouragement (and) a blanket, is great,” Doll said.
