According to a news release issued Wednesday by the Mesquite Police, an officer was patrolling a residential area when he observed a suspicious male walking down the street carrying a cash register drawer.

“When the male saw the marked police car, he attempted to hide the drawer and walk away from the area,” the release stated. “Due to these suspicious actions, the officer stopped the male to investigate.”

During their investigation, responding officers reportedly discovered the male had just forced his way a nearby business, committing a burglary and damaging the property. The suspect also allegedly took the cash drawer and a small amount of money. Detectives from the police department also responded to assist with processing the scene and with evidence collection.

Nathan Chaveste was arrested for one felony count of burglary and misdemeanor charges of property damage, petit larceny, possession of stolen property and false information/obstructing. Due to the felony charge, Chaveste was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.
