Patricia Corazon Corpus Holland

July 31, 1948 – Oct. 27, 2021

Patricia (Pat) Corazon Corpus Holland, 73, passed away on Oct. 27, 2021, due to complications related to COVID-19. She was born on July 31, 1948, in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, to Philip Miguel Tacbian Corpus and Elizabeth Magsanide. On June 19, 1971, she married Neil David Holland in the Honolulu Hawaii Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Church). This past June, they celebrated 50 years of marriage with their five children.

Patricia grew up on Akepo Lane, in the Palama District of Honolulu, with her family and cousins. She attended Princess Ka’iulani Elementary, Central (now Princess Ke’elikolani) Intermediate School, and McKinley High School before going on to Church College of Hawaii (now BYU Hawaii), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and family relations—along with a fifth-year teaching certificate. She met Neil, a foreign student from New Zealand, at Church College during their studies.

Pat’s first experience with Neil was her and her friends being teased by Neil and his friends. One day she was returning to her dorm and waited to be sure Neil would not see her pass while he was trimming a coconut tree. Alas, Neil saw her and called out from his lofty perch, “Don’t say hello!” to which she turned around with a big smile and said “Oh, Hello.” After dating for nine months and waiting through Neil’s missionary service in the Philippines, they were married.

Pat’s marriage to Neil was dominated by his 42 years of active duty or contract duty support to the United States Air Force. They spent their years in Texas, Utah, Florida, Okinawa Japan (six years), Honolulu (four years), Anchorage (six years), Saudi Arabia (five years), and back to Anchorage after 9/11 for 12 years. The life of a fighter pilot’s wife was not easy.

Pat was frequently left to raise their children alone—yet she completed two master’s degrees—one from Michigan State University in community affairs and one from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in education counseling. She then used her education to continue to work as a homemaker in support of her five premature and special needs children.

Pat had a great talent for arts and crafts. Many of her creations, from quilts to holiday wreaths, adorn the house. She often created unique pieces as gifts for friends, family or those in need. Of special note are the ribbon flowers she learned to make by hand in Japan before their production was commercialized.

Pat was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ throughout her life. Church, community service and missionary work were integral parts of her worship. Her work for the Church and community included serving as Relief Society President and as a missionary (along with Neil) in the Church’s Addiction Recovery Program.

She also volunteered for many years as a certified Boy Scouts of America training expert serving BSA sponsor organizations in Okinawa, Hawaii and Alaska. With the advent of the Internet Age, she entered chat rooms to support her faith. Her doctrinal and scriptural insight amazed many. One such insight for Christians who felt baptism was not necessary if “born again,” was the observation that according to John 3:1-5 one could certainly “see the kingdom of God” if “born again” but could only “enter into the kingdom of God” if “born of water (baptism) and of the Spirit.”

During a particularly difficult time while in Okinawa, Pat experienced the loving compassion of her Savior. Following that experience her home seldom had an empty bedroom. Family, extended family, and the needy always had a haven of comfort and hope at the Holland family center.

Her strength, perseverance, faith, kindness, and humor are remembered by all. Pat was and is a wonderful loving character—still reported to be checking up on her husband and children.

She is survived by her husband Neil, of Saint George, Utah, her children Jonathan (Saint George, Utah), Eliot (Saint Louis, Missouri), Jeremy (San Francisco, California), and Alanna (Micah) Naylor (Lincolnton, North Carolina), grandchildren Timothy (Gabriela) Holland, Amanda (Joseph) Jensen, Kathleen Carlson, Liliana Naylor, Elora Naylor, Avienda Naylor, great grandson Artemio Jensen, and sister Ipolani (Sinclair) Lott (Glendale, California).

She is preceded in death by her brother Artemio Corpus, parents Philip and Elizabeth Corpus, and son Christopher Holland just last month.
