Senior Risko Brooks poured in a game-high 24 points for the Flyers, with Kyle Lemke adding 18 points and Grant Carter contributing 16.

Dixie had led by just six points after three quarters, 56-50, but the Flyers then went on a 27-10 run during the fourth stanza to pick up the non-region win. The Flyers shot 90% from the free throw line during the game (18 of 20).

“It took us a while to get going but we had a great second half,” Dixie head coach Tyler Roberts told St. George News. “It was a great team win and I loved the effort from everyone.”

Roberts added that he and his players were happy to be back in front of their fans as the Flyers kick off another season.

“We just need to continue to get better every game, and focus on playing together and buying into ‘FLYFAM’,” he said.

Hot on the heels of Thursday’s opener, Dixie is scheduled to play two more home games this weekend, with the Flyers facing Cyprus on Friday at 7 p.m. and Green Canyon on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Roberts said Cyprus, a 6A school in Salt Lake County, should provide a tough challenge Friday night.

“They have some really good guards and are well-coached,” he said of the Pirates.

In other preseason boys basketball action involving Region 10 teams on Thursday night, Cedar High lost at Sky View 88-85. Desert Hills also lost on the road up north, falling to Ridgeline 62-49, while Pine View defeated Mountain Crest 44-36 in a game played at Sky View High. Meanwhile, on the southern end of the state, Snow Canyon won at home over Cyprus, 59-53, while Crimson Cliffs fell at home to Green Canyon by one point, 57-56.

The seven Region 10 teams will continue to play in various non-region games and tournaments throughout the month of December before taking a brief break during the year-end holiday moratorium. Region 10’s regular-season schedule starts Jan. 5.
