The incident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. All four vehicles quickly moved to the parking lot of the Maverik Adventure’s First Stop and regular traffic flow was not disrupted for very long.

St. George Police Officer Eric Trombley told St. George News that a maroon Cadillac Escalade SUV, turning left onto 1000 E, and a white Ford F-250 pickup truck going westbound on St. George Boulevard entered the intersection at the same time on a yellow light.

The F-250 hit the Escalade, Trombley said, causing the SUV to spin and strike two other vehicles (a silver pickup truck and a gold minivan) that were waiting to drive through the intersection.

Personnel from St. George Police, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance all responded to the scene, although no one needed to be transported to the hospital.

Trombley said that all drivers in the incident were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision and the Escalade’s airbag engaged. He said that drivers reported some soreness but no injuries.

All drivers stayed on the scene and exchanged insurance information.

“I think sometimes people are just getting in a hurry,” Trombley said. “Just this month in general, I’ve had a lot of people say, ‘I had a yellow light on the left hand turn,’ and they ended up turning.”

He added that drivers need to remain fully aware that you cannot turn left on a yellow light until you wait and know the traffic is completely clear.

Trombley said that there was a citation issued for an improper left turn.

This report is based on information provided by police personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings.
