As originally reported by St. George News, the incident took place about 6:40 p.m. in the area of 1624 W. Sunset Boulevard near the driveway to the shopping center containing America First Credit Union, Carl’s Jr. and Home Depot.

St. George Police Sgt. Tyrell Bangerter said at the scene that the pedestrian, an adult male, was crossing Sunset from the south side when he was hit by an automobile heading west. He was transported to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition. As Bangerter spoke with St. George News, a jacket and some debris could be seen in a coned-off area of the road.

Numerous responders were at the scene in addition to St. George Police, including Gold Cross Ambulance and St. George Fire Department.

“We have several patrol officers and supervisors that were working the streets, and we also called out our accident reconstruction team,” Bangerter said, “so we’re going to have quite a few of us out here. Many hands make light work, right?”

No further information was released Thursday, but according to a Facebook post from the St. George Police Department, the pedestrian, 60-year-old Michael Lynn Dalton, died Friday from injuries he sustained in the collision.

“Family and those involved in this crash have been notified,” the Police Department said in the post. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Michael Dalton on his passing.”

The post also stated that the driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old male, was at the scene and had cooperated with authorities and that the accident reconstruction team continues to investigate the incident.

“Any charges, if applicable, are pending the completion of the investigation,” the post said.

This is a developing story.
