CEDAR CITY – Tourism Week is being celebrated Monday through Friday in Iron County. Tourism week is an entire week dedicated to the importance of tourism and economic impact.
“It’s to say ‘thank you’ to our various partners – our restaurant partners, our lodging partners, our townspeople who act as ambassadors to our tourists; but also to say ‘thank you’ to our tourists, because we appreciate what they do for our economy,” said Bonnie Char, public relations specialist for the Cedar City • Brian Head Tourism Bureau.
Visitors and the general public are invited to participate in appreciation day on Friday from 2-5 p.m. at the Iron County Visitor Center, 581 N. Main St. in Cedar City. Appreciation day will involve a special exhibit at the Iron County Visitor Center showing how tourism operates in Iron County. There will also be free window washing, King Ralph’s Kettle Korn and a live radio remote from KSUB with prizes and giveaways.
“We’re trying to help people understand that tourism is economic development,” Char said. “It’s not just fluff and it’s not just fun vacations – it’s true economic development. These are clean dollars coming into our town that aren’t recycled from the townspeople; it’s new money coming in.”
As a part of Tourism Week, the Cedar City • Brian Head Tourism Bureau will host the Cedar City Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Thursday at 1 p.m. Attendance at the luncheon is open to anyone, but space is limited so attendees must RSVP.
