ST. GEORGE — A fire at a mobile home park on North Dixie Downs Road caused extensive damage that left a family displaced and a trailer destroyed early Wednesday morning.
At 12:10 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at the Canyon View Mobile Home Park at 1450 N. Dixie Downs Road involving a single-wide mobile home with smoke and flames visible, St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker said.
The home’s occupants were safely evacuated and waiting outside when fire crews arrived, so firefighters entered the mobile home and began battling the blaze, which was rapidly spreading from the rear of the trailer toward the front.
Additional engines and firefighters were also dispatched to the scene and the active flames were soon extinguished.
Crews spent the next several hours overhauling the area and checking for any burning embers or hot spots that could potentially reignite later.
Stoker said the fire started in the master bedroom at the rear of the trailer, then spread throughout the interior of the residence, leaving it uninhabitable due to fire and smoke damage, Stoker said.
The residents were taken in by family members living in the area.
No injuries to to either firefighters or others were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Stoker said.
Fire loss in the U.S.
Every 24 seconds, a fire department is called out to a fire in the U.S., and a structure fire is reported every 63 seconds, according to a 2017 report by the National Fire Protection Agency.
In 2017, more than half a million structure fires were reported, and more than 72 percent, or 350,000, involved single-family residences, including manufactured homes and apartments.
The loss from residential fires alone in 2017 exceeded more than $7 billion.
This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Too bad a few more of those rat filled trailers did not go with that one and we can get something nice built in that area!! Just like we are doing in our fine community in Washington city
Not very nice. It would suck to have all your stuff burn up. People need to be careful w/ those space heaters. Those are a common cause.
That’s mean. A family just lost their home.
