ST. GEORGE – The Washington County Drug Task Force arrested a Hurricane man Tuesday for a myriad of drug charges including possession, distribution and having a clandestine “box lab” for meth production.
St. George Police Capt. Kyle Whitehead said Lance Walter Postma, 32, of Hurricane, was recognized by a detective and followed until he could be stopped for a traffic violation. Authorities have been told that Postma is allegedly involved in the area drug culture, Whitehead said, and was suspected of drug dealing.
After Postma was pulled over, a K-9 unit was called in to sniff for traces of narcotics. The dog indicated there were drugs in Postma’s vehicle and police proceeded to search it.
Contents found within the vehicle are believed to be marijuana, meth, and drug paraphernalia, as well as a rifle. What Whitehead described as a “box lab” was also found.
The box lab is basically a meth lab in miniature and tends to by used by individuals for personal use, Whitehead said. He added that the chemicals used in such labs for meth production were particularly toxic and dangerous.
Postma was arrested and booked into jail on four drug-related class B misdemeanors; a third-degree felony weapons offense, a second-degree drug manufacture/distribution offense, and a first-degree felony offense for the possession of a clandestine lab containing hazardous materials.
