MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. – A vehicle fire around 4:30 p.m., Monday, impacted traffic on southbound Interstate 15 two miles from the Nevada-Arizona border, the Arizona Department of Transportation reported.

A class-A motorhome was traveling southbound on I-15 near milepost 3 in Arizona when it caught fire, Arizona Highway Patrol Sgt. John Bottoms said. The two occupants in the motorhome were able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and escaped before the rest of it was engulfed in flames.

“It burnt all the way down to the frame,” Bottoms said.

Travel lanes were shutdown in order to allow fire crews to move in and put out the fire.

The two people who had been in the motorhome were not harmed.

Update: 5:10 p.m.: One southbound lane of Interstate 15 near the Nevada state line has reopened, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The left lane has reopened, but the right lane remains closed because of an earlier vehicle fire.

Traffic is expected to be slow through the area until both lanes reopen.

4:30 p.m.: The southbound lanes of Interstate 15 are closed two miles north of the Nevada state line, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, around 4:35 p.m., Monday. A vehicle fire is blocking the southbound lanes.

There is no estimated time to reopen the roadway. Drivers should consider avoiding the area or delaying travel.

Northbound I-15 is open to traffic.
