An award-winning painter, Richards is known for taking unique approaches to exploring traditional Judeo-Christian themes. His contemporary spiritual artwork is influenced by his love of all things textural, poetic and mysterious. Additionally, his palette, which often consists of subdued browns and rusts, was influenced by his experience of living in Rome for two years.

Richards is best known for his pieces on display in the exhibit “Beholding Salvation: The Life of Christ in Word and Image” at the BYU Museum of Art and his contributions to Helen Whitney’s PBS Frontline documentary “The Mormons: An American Experience.”

He also created the cover image of Jeffrey R. Holland’s book “Broken Things to Mend” and imagery in the Ensign, Liahona and Upper Room publications.

Dixie Forum will be on recess Nov. 25, but the series will continue with more insight into the fine arts when DSU Art Professor Del Parson presents at noon on Dec. 2 in the Dunford Auditorium.

Dixie Forum is designed to introduce the St. George community and DSU students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. Dixie State students can earn one college credit by signing up for HUM 1000, attending lectures regularly, carefully considering the ideas expressed and writing about the presentations.
