MESQUITE, Nevada – A man is dead Tuesday evening after reportedly traveling in excess speeds on northbound Interstate 15 before leaving the roadway and rolling his yellow Chevrolet Corvette.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., witnesses told police the man was traveling in excess of 100 mph before leaving the roadway about 4 miles north of Mesquite, Nevada, Arizona Department of Public Safety Sgt. John T. Bottoms said.
“One witness thought he was traveling close to 150 mph,” Bottoms said. “He passed this witness and she said that when he passed her, her entire SUV shook and she was traveling the speed limit.”
The driver left the right shoulder of the road although authorities are still unclear as to why.
“There were no obstacles as far as we know in his path,” Bottoms said, “so we don’t know if he just drifted off the road and then lost control, but he rolled and was ejected and died at the scene from his injuries.”
Bottoms said there was an odor of alcohol near the vehicle due to beer cans inside the car rupturing during impact and spraying alcohol all over the area where the car came to rest. Authorities said they don’t know at this time whether alcohol played a factor in the rollover or if the driver was intoxicated or impaired at the time of the collision.
The man was the only occupant in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the collision.
“The car is absolutely destroyed,” Bottoms said. “When I pulled up on the scene I couldn’t make out the make or model of the vehicle from the amount of damage or what’s left of the vehicle.”
One northbound lane of traffic was closed as a result of the rollover but, Bottoms said, traffic was light and there were no delays or traffic backup.
The name of the deceased man has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

I saw the scene last night and wondered if there would be a report on it here today. (Thank you Kimberly, for the info) Even in the final cleanup stages, it looked pretty horrific. 🙁 Glad no innocent bystanders were injured.
We also passed by as the clean up was going on it wasn’t a pretty sight my sympathy for the family of course. But I’m glad no one else was innocently involved like a car with a family and children in it… But once again my sympathy to the family
Horrible that someone had to lose a life, but thank God it was this selfish idiots own life and not that of an innocent bystander. No regard to anyone but himself, driving too fast, showing off, and drinking. Hope it was worth it in the end.
This is the first I had read about the tragedy. But alas, I have a subscription to “The Spectrum”. It occasionally trips over some local news without going to the national feed troughs. Their virtue? The crossword puzzle and the Saturday AM democrat whine fest.

The Independent has a whole staff of writers that in their poor judgment moved to southern utah thinking it was far-left-ville.
They all hate it here but can’t aford a bus ticket out.
