HURRICANE – A box of roofing nails that fell off a truck closed Sand Hollow Road and disrupted traffic near Sand Hollow State Park for 45 minutes Wednesday morning.
Shortly after 9 a.m., Hurricane Police Department was called to the scene where a 60-pound box of nails was spread out over 100-200 yards of roadway, Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. The spill was on Sand Hollow Road between Sand Hollow Parkway and state Route 7.
“It was causing quite a substantial traffic hazard,” Buell said. The spill closed both lanes temporarily.
A Sand Hollow State Park ranger responded to help with traffic control, and a City of Hurricane street sweeper was brought in to clean up the mess.
Traffic was stopped at each end of the affected area, and one lane was opened at a time while the nails were cleaned up, Buell said.

That’s not cleaning up, just sweeping the problem aside only to have someone (many) get a flat in the future. An attempt to locate the driver and get an address for future flat tire billings would have helped. They should make all reasonable attempts to clean the area and be at least fined for littering.
LOL ! go get em inspector Gadget
So a simple magnetic roller was out of the question? The best idea was to sweep it off to the side?
Why not one of those vacuum trucks that clean the ditches in town?
Pray tell, will the Iron Man bike race be going through this stretch?
It looks like a whole gaggle of people got nailed this morning.
