UPDATED: Man killed after driving car off cliff on Webb Hill

ST. GEORGE — A person was killed after driving a car off a cliff in what police say was a suicide attempt on Webb Hill in St. George.

Update May 29 at 3 p.m. Police confirmed the person who died was a 56-year-old man.

A hiker on top of Webb Hill spotted the crashed vehicle Monday and called 911 at about 9:50 a.m. The smashed, upside-down vehicle was found halfway down the mountain on the south side of Webb Hill. With binoculars, it could be seen from Brigham Road.

“At this time in the investigation we can confirm that this was a single vehicle accident resulting from a suicide attempt,” St. George Police officer Lona Trombley said in a statement.

St. George Police officers, St. George firefighters and emergency responders from Gold Cross Ambulance first responded to the scene. After the body was found, Washington County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers were called to help recover it. Accident reconstruction officers also responded to help in the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time, Trombley said.

This report is based on statements from police or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Is this near the spot kids found the body of a person in a cave… from about 1890 IIRC?

I don’t think so Carpe. That was west of Bloomington, not Bloominton Hills; well, “technically speaking” it’s west of both; but I don’t speak “technically” this early in the morning; so, I could be wrong about both!

Not the same location. This is actually east of Bloomington across the freeway.

Yes, this is the VERY SAME hill. I’ve been up there. I was researching facts and locations for the book “Windy’s Last Ride”. The remains date to about 100 years ago, during World War 1 most likely.

Ok, I might be getting a little literal. But this wasnt an attempted suicide. If a person attempts suicide but dies, isn’t it just called suicide?

I feel very sad for anyone stuck in such a dark place that they believe killing themselves is the answer. No, it’s not the answer. Jesus is the answer!

Stop trolling. You’re not funny and you’re not concerned about anyone.
