HURRICANE — A motorcycle rider is at the hospital Monday evening after a car made a U-turn in front of him.
“At 7:10 this evening, officers and medical personnel were called to 3150 South Sand Hollow Road,” Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said, “on a crash between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.”
Buell said the car, a 1994 Saturn, was traveling north on Sand Hollow Road and proceeded to make a U-turn in front of the motorcycle. The rider hit the front end of the car and went down.
The rider, a 65-year-old male, was wearing a helmet. Buell said he sustained a possible leg injury and road rash. A Hurricane Valley Fire District ambulance responded and took the rider to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George in stable condition.
The driver of the Saturn was a 17-year-old female. She was wearing her seat belt, was uninjured, and Buell said she was cited for an improper U-turn.
Traffic was limited to one lane in both directions for about 30-40 minutes while the injured man was treated and the debris cleaned up.
Units from the Hurricane City Police Department, the Utah State Parks and Hurricane Valley Fire Department responded to the crash.

There should really be more emphasis in drivers ed about being cautious and aware for motorcycles and semi trucks. Good thing this rider was wearing his helmet.
